Announced August 2016
Major water main rehabilitation work was planned to begin in September 2016 in the northwest section of the City of Taylor, in the area from Van Born south to the I-94 freeway and from Cooper Avenue west to Gulley Road. A public hearing was held on the project August 30 and written notice was also delivered to homes in the area by mail.
The work involved a widely used construction operation known as pipe bursting, which is a trenchless method, whereby the existing water main will be replaced by a new one in the same location. There were some locations where a new water main will be located, and that will be performed by another trenchless method known as directional drilling. There will be localized excavation in yards to connect service lines to the service main. These areas will be restored shortly after the work is completed.
